Taking Positives from the 2013 Royal Rumble

It was what it was.  Of course, seeing Rock undeservingly take the strap from Punk and John Cena winning the rumble is disheartening.  But here are some positives that can be taken from it all:

- This opens Punk open to work angles with a number of other different wrestlers.  What if he seeks revenge on The Shield for interfering and we build to Punk v. Ambrose?  Or the often dream booked Punk v. Stone Cold?  Or the rumoured Punk v. Taker at this year's Mania?  Or maybe he'll form a tag team with Tyson Kidd and sweep the division.  You see where this is going.  While it was great to see an indie darling who is undoubtedly the most talented heel in the company and a master at his role serving as a long reigning champ its not necessary to get Punk over.  With Heyman adding to the mic work Punk has risen above needing Vince's top imaginary brass ring.  He will continue to soar.  This is more a new creative opportunity than anything.

- If we must endure watching Cena and Rock in the ring, at least we can put them together in one match and get it over with quickly.  Sure its cheap but its not for us.  And it will all be over soon.  Brandon Stroud has already threatened to start recapping old Nitro episodes while The Rock is running his two month & some change long championship run.

-ADR is now the most affable face in the company.  Think about it.  He has a lovable sidekick who we cheer for, displays characteristics that are actually noble for a hero character, and is a positive hispanic role model (of which there was quite a draught in 2012 - luchadors aside).  He's the Mexican Brett Hart.

-The company is still firmly behind Daniel Bryan and we can expect a MUCH better Wrestlemania match from him this year.

- The Rumble itself had some great stories within it.  Cody Rhodes v. Goldust was incredible and hopefully moving towards a Mania match.  Ziggler v. Jericho starting the match and both making it to the final five is a program that I can really get behind.  Not to mention that its a storyline that actually makes sense.  And the Bo Dallas v. Wade Barret exchange was really fun to watch.  What an amazing debut for a young NXT guy (of which five have debuted since Survivor Series) and its a great story that writes itself.

-Did anyone else notice all the Colt Cabana fanfare in the audience that night?  That was encouraging.

Overall, if the main event results can be set aside, it really was a great PPV.
